A film has been made about Princess Diana's wedding dress

British television has filmed the story behind Princess Diana’s wedding dress. The documentary Secrets of Diana’s Wedding Dress will premiere on June 28. For the first time in 40 years, the film will reveal how Lady Di’s legendary “dress of the century” came to be, according to People.

The main characters in the film are designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel. They were the ones who made the dress for Diana Spencer in 1981. In the film, they share their memories, including how they received an unexpected call from the future princess asking: “Would you like to design my wedding dress?”

At the time, the designers were a young married couple who had only recently graduated but already had famous clients. After seeing them in Vogue magazine, Diana approached them and asked for a dress like a fairy-tale princess.

The film also reveals a little-known fact: Diana used a fake name — Deborah Cornwall — to keep the dress design process as secret as possible from the press.

And to avoid spying, Emanuel destroyed fabric samples and threw them away in different trash cans. According to the designers, reporters even tried to bribe employees to find out the details.

The designers and the princess also had a backup plan — a spare dress in case the main outfit was stolen or damaged. Incidentally, the spare dress was stolen by unknown persons after the wedding.
