The release of the new film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel has seen a sharp increase in interest in the original work. According to Spotify, audiobook listening to “Wuthering Heights” has increased by 440% since the release of the film’s trailer in September last year.
The film adaptation, directed by Emerald Fennell, grossed $83 million worldwide last weekend. At the same time, the service recorded a sharp increase in interest in the book in audio format after the trailer was released in September.
According to the platform, it’s not just the return of long-time listeners: the number of new users who turned on the audiobook for the first time has increased by 260%. The audience of Generation Z (ages 13-28) has been particularly active – in this group, listening has increased by 191%.
