Austrian ski jumper Daniel Chofenig has been disqualified from the individual event at the Olympics for wearing shoes that were too big.
The 23-year-old sportsman had qualified for the finals with confidence and was hoping to compete for a medal. Still, his result was annulled after his equipment was checked. Chofenig himself admitted his mistake.
“I used new shoes in training, which I didn’t really like, but I kept them. Unfortunately, I was naive and didn’t measure them. It was extremely stupid of me; there was a lot of stress. But rules are rules,” he commented.
In the first round, the athlete scored 137.7 points, but after a violation was established, he was disqualified. This allowed Slovakian Hector Kapustik to advance to the finals.
The competition was won by Slovenian Domen Prevc, silver by Japanese Ren Nikaido, and bronze by Polish Katzper Tomasiak.
