Avatar: Fire and Ash has crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office in its 18th day of release. The total grosses are $1.083 billion, with $306 million coming from North America and $777.1 million from international sales.
The third installment in the franchise has been slower to reach the $1 billion mark than previous films in the series. In comparison, 2022’s Avatar: Fire and Ash took 14 days to get the milestone, while the first Avatar took 17 days. However, both films have held the top spot for a long time, topping the box office for 7 consecutive weekends and eventually becoming among the highest-grossing films in history. The first Avatar grossed $2.9 billion, while The Way of the Water has grossed $2.3 billion.
Whether Avatar: Fire and Ash will surpass $2 billion worldwide remains an open question. The subsequent financial results will largely depend on international markets, which accounted for the bulk of the income from the first two films. Thus, the original “Avatar” received about $2.1 billion outside the United States, and its sequel received $1.65 billion in foreign territories.
The third part is currently showing the highest overseas collection in China – $138 million. Other key markets include France ($81 million), Germany ($64 million), and South Korea ($44 million).
Avatar: Fire and Ash became the third Disney film in 2025 to cross the billion-dollar mark, after Lilo and Stitch and Zootopia 2. By comparison, no other major studio has released a film that grossed more than $1 billion since 2023.
Overall, these releases cemented a successful year for Disney, which earned more than $6.58 billion at the global box office for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. The company maintains its market share lead, ahead of its closest competitors by at least $2 billion.
