The biographical drama “Michael,” dedicated to the life and work of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has set a new record! The film officially surpassed the historic $1 billion mark at the global box office. It became the most successful biopic in cinema history. The film was directed by Antoine Fuqua, and the legendary musician was played by his nephew, Jafar Jackson.
According to Variety, the film has collected $629.8 million outside the United States and another $371.8 million in the American market, bringing the total collection to $1.001 billion.
Since its sensational premiere in April, the biopic has confidently bypassed the genre’s giants. Previously, the absolute leader among musical film stories was the cult hit “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which once grossed a solid $911 million.
“Michael” has now surpassed not only her but also Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” which finished with a $975 million box office haul.
