The mobile version of OpenAI’s chatbot has reached an impressive financial milestone, confirming its status as one of the most successful products in the history of technology. The app’s combined revenue across iOS and Android platforms has crossed $3 billion. The lion’s share of this amount was generated this year, indicating the massive integration of artificial intelligence into users’ everyday lives. This is reported by the analytical platform Appfigures.
Analysts note the rapid growth of financial indicators of Sam Altman’s company. The revenue dynamics look like a geometric progression:
- 2023 (launch year): the mobile application generated $42.9 million in revenue.
- 2024: revenue grew to $487 million.
- 2025: users spent a record $2.48 billion in the application.
It took ChatGPT only 31 months to reach $3 billion in revenue. This is much faster than other technology giants.
For comparison:
- The social network TikTok took 58 months to do this.
- The streaming service HBO Max took 46 months.
- The Disney+ platform took 42 months.
Subscriptions remain the primary source of income. Users are actively purchasing the standard ChatGPT Plus package for $20 per month, as well as the advanced Pro version costing $200 per month.
In addition, the company is looking for new ways to monetize. This week, OpenAI launched its own marketplace (app store) directly within the ChatGPT ecosystem, which should become an additional source of revenue.
