Donatella Versace resigned as creative director of the brand

Donatella Versace has stepped down as creative director of Versace after 28 years as head of the brand. She will now serve as an ambassador for the fashion house.

“It has always been important to me to support the new generation of designers. I want to thank the incredible team of designers and all the people at Versace with whom I have worked for almost three decades. It has been the greatest honor for me to continue Gianni’s work. He was a genius, but I hope I have some of his spirit and perseverance,” the 69-year-old fashion designer said.

WWD reports that Dario Vitale, who previously held the position of design director at Miu Miu, will replace Donatella as the new chief designer. He will become a Versace designer on April 1.
