Billionaire Elon Musk has unveiled a new online project, Grokpedia, his own alternative to Wikipedia, which he calls a “fairer version.” The new encyclopedia was created by his artificial intelligence company, xAI.
According to Musk, Grokpedia’s main goal is to “fight propaganda,” which he believes is being spread on regular Wikipedia, The Verge reports.
The site already contains more than 880,000 articles generated by artificial intelligence. For comparison, Wikipedia has more than 7 million such articles, all written by humans. Articles cannot be edited on Grokpedia — all materials are considered “checked by artificial intelligence.”
Musk’s encyclopedia is powered by a chatbot called Grok, which can update information in real time. The site already has pages about Musk himself, his competitors, politicians, and famous people.
However, journalists have noted that some articles contain controversial statements or reflect Musk’s personal views. Wikipedia provides other, more neutral information. In addition, some texts partially coincide with articles on Wikipedia itself. At the end of such pages, there is a note that the content is “adapted from Wikipedia.”
