Gary Oldman knighted

Hollywood legend Gary Oldman has received one of the highest honors in the United Kingdom — a knighthood.

The decision to award the title was made in June by King Charles III. Today, a ceremony was held at Windsor Castle, where Prince William, on behalf of his father, the monarch, knighted the actor.

The 67-year-old Oscar winner was honored for his outstanding achievements in the field of dramatic art, as the newly minted Sir Gary Oldman is known for his versatile style. He has played dozens of iconic roles, from Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour to Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols and Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg in The Fifth Element.

During the ceremony, the Prince of Wales admitted that he is a long-time fan of the star’s work, according to The Independent.
