Google is scaling back its inclusion programs when hiring employees

Google is abandoning its diversity, equality, and inclusion policy when hiring people and is reviewing some of its programs.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Google said it would no longer try to improve minority representation in the company. After George Floyd’s death in 2020 and the Black Lives Matter movement protests, the tech giant promised to increase the share of “underrepresented groups” in leadership positions by 30% by 2025.

The company is reviewing recent court rulings and executive orders by U.S. President Donald Trump aimed at limiting DEI in the government and evaluating how to change its policy in accordance with the new requirements. Nevertheless, Google will continue to open and expand offices in cities where employees belong to diverse groups.

“We will continue to invest in staff across the U.S. and in many countries around the world, but we will no longer set ambitious goals in the future,” the email says.

Google’s Chief Human Resources Officer Fiona Cicconi noted that Google primarily creates an environment where everyone “can thrive” and is treated fairly.
