Google Launches AI-Powered Design Tool Google Pics to Compete with Canva

Google has officially entered the creative design sector with the introduction of Google Pics, an AI-driven image creation and editing tool. This new offering will be integrated into the Google Workspace suite, targeting business customers and premium subscribers of Google AI.

Powered by Google’s Nano Banana image-generation model, Google Pics is set to roll out in the coming weeks to most Workspace users and those subscribed to Google AI Pro or Ultra. The tool is designed to assist with everyday design tasks, allowing users to create posters, social media content, and various visuals.

Unlike Canva, which enables artists and designers to monetize their templates and graphics, Google Pics focuses on generating images based on AI algorithms trained on existing artworks. This positions it differently from traditional design tools, as users will prompt the AI to create rather than design from scratch.

In addition to image generation, Google Pics includes editing features that allow users to isolate and modify objects, as well as translate text within images. The tool also supports collaborative editing and offers multiple variations of generated images, enabling users to select their preferred option.

The integration of Google Pics will begin with Google Docs and Slides, with plans to expand its availability to Google Drive in the near future.
