Greta Thunberg has once again become the main person in another scandal. So, the Swedish eco-activist, together with members of the Extinction Rebellion movement, painted the Grand Canal bright green. After that, the city authorities put her outside the city limits of Venice. The Daily Mail writes about the incident.
According to the activists, such an action is a demonstrative cry about the climate crisis. And the dye that they poured into the water of the most famous canal is fluorescein, which is safe for the environment and is often used by environmentalists themselves. The purpose of the event is simple: to loudly remind people of the failure of the COP30 climate talks, which ended in Brazil.
As soon as the water turned acid green, a Stop Ecocide banner appeared on the Rialto Bridge. Then the activists staged a slow performance: people in red, veiled, moved through crowds of tourists.
The authorities’ reaction was immediate. 22-year-old Greta was fined €150 and banned from appearing in Venice for the next 48 hours. 35 other participants in the action received the same “sanctions”.
