Singapore tops the ranking of the most powerful passports — with a Singaporean passport, you can travel visa-free to 193 out of 227 countries. In general, Asian countries continue to lead the global mobility race: Japan and South Korea are in second place (with 190 destinations available to them).
In third place are seven European Union countries, including France, Germany, and Italy (189 countries). In fourth place are seven more European countries: Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden, with access to 188 countries. Greece, Switzerland, and New Zealand share fifth place.
Afghanistan has the lowest ranking. Its citizens can only travel to 25 countries without a visa, creating a gap of 168 countries between the strongest and weakest passports.
The Henley & Partners Passport Index analyzes the visa rules of 227 countries and territories worldwide every quarter, ranking them by the number of countries their citizens can enter visa-free. The ranking is compiled in collaboration with the International Air Transport Association, which maintains the world’s largest database of travel information.
