According to TechCrunch, Instagram has started testing a new application called Instants, currently available in Spain and Italy. The app specializes in sharing disappearing photos: users can view the images only once within 24 hours. Photos are created directly in Instants with a single tap, without editing options or gallery uploads, though users can add text captions.
Company representatives emphasize that Instants is designed for sharing simple, everyday snapshots, unlike the main Instagram app, where polished content prevails. The product’s strategy aligns with platforms like Snapchat, Locket, and BeReal, emphasizing authenticity and temporary content.
Previously, Instants was tested as a standalone feature within Instagram in select regions. Now, users can choose to use Instants either within Instagram or as a separate app. According to a company spokesperson, the aim is to provide users with simple, convenient tools for informal interaction with friends, as well as to gather feedback to improve the product.
Photo sharing in Instants is possible among mutual followers or via the ‘Close Friends’ list, which syncs with the corresponding lists on Instagram. The app is compatible with iOS and Android.
