Jim Jarmusch wins Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival

On Saturday, September 6, the 82nd Venice International Film Festival came to an end. The organizers announced the winners at a grand closing ceremony.

The oldest film festival in the world, the Venice Film Festival, took place in Venice. It presented viewers with a large number of interesting films that will soon be released in theaters worldwide, offering viewers many exciting hours in front of the big screen. In the meantime, the festival jury, film critics, and viewers who were lucky enough to attend this year’s film festival have had a chance to evaluate them.

Twenty-one films participated in the competition program, including new films by Noah Baumbach, Kathryn Bigelow, Guillermo del Toro, Jim Jarmusch, François Ozon, Paolo Sorrentino, and others.

The winners were selected by a jury headed by American director, screenwriter, and producer Alexander Payne, an Oscar and Golden Globe winner. He was assisted in evaluating the films by French director and screenwriter Stéphane Brizé, Italian director Maura Delpero, Romanian director and screenwriter Cristian Mungiu, Iranian director and screenwriter Mohammad Rasoulof, Brazilian actress and screenwriter Fernanda Torres, and Chinese actor Zhao Tao.

Jim Jarmusch won the Golden Lion for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival. His victory came with the triptych Father, Mother, Sister, Brother. It is a comedy triptych about three generations of one family. The leading roles were played by Cate Blanchett, Vicky Krieps, Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, and others. This is the first award for 72-year-old Jim Jarmusch in Venice.

The Silver Lion for Best Director went to Benny Safdie for his film The Smashing Machine, a biographical sports drama about former mixed martial arts fighter Michael Kerr, and one of the roles in this film — Ukrainian athlete Igor Vovchanin — was played by the current undisputed boxing champion Oleksandr Usyk.

The Grand Prix of the jury went to the drama about Gaza, The Voice of Hind Rajab, an artistic drama by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania about the killing of five-year-old Hind Rajab from Gaza by the IDF during the war against Hamas. Tunisia has nominated this film for the 2026 Oscars.
