French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, have filed a defamation lawsuit in the Delaware Supreme Court against American conservative activist and podcast host Candace Owens.
The lawsuit cites Owens’ “absurd statements,” chief among them the claim that Brigitte Macron was born a man named Jean-Michel Tronier.
The document also states that Owens publicly claimed that the Macrons are blood relatives and that Emmanuel Macron is the product of CIA experiments or a similar “mind control program.”
According to Reuters, to win a defamation case in the US, plaintiffs must prove that the defendants acted with “actual malice,” meaning they either knew the information they published was false or were reckless about its truthfulness.
