McLaren owners buy out stake in racing team for over $4 billion

The McLaren Racing Ltd racing team, the leader of the current Formula 1 championship, has been valued at over $4.1 billion in a share buyback deal. This is yet another indication of the rapid growth of investor interest in this sport. This was reported on Monday, September 1, by Bloomberg.

The owners of McLaren Group – Bahrain’s sovereign wealth fund Mumtalakat and Abu Dhabi’s CYVN Holdings – will gain full control of the racing team. They will acquire 30% of the shares owned by the American investment fund MSP Sports Capital and other minority shareholders.

This deal demonstrates an explosive growth in the team’s value. For comparison, in 2020, MSP Sports Capital acquired its stake based on a valuation of the entire team at a much more modest $756 million.
