Meta launches new Ray-Ban smart glasses with built-in display for $800

Meta Platforms Inc. introduced the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, a new model of smart glasses with a built-in display, designed to build on the success of its predecessors. Investing reports.

The glasses cost $799 and are one of the latest offerings in Meta’s partnership with eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica, owner of the Ray-Ban brand.

Meta also introduced the Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses for $499 and the second generation of Ray-Ban Meta glasses for $379.

Meta has had success with its wearables over the past year, which also serve as a conduit for the company’s AI products. The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses are likely to be a consumer-ready version of the experimental Orion augmented reality glasses that the company is set to introduce in 2024.

Meta unveiled the new models during its annual Connect conference.

Meta’s smart glasses are one of the few wearable AI products to have achieved success in recent years, as attempts to merge AI and consumer electronics have so far yielded limited results.

Meta has sold more than 2 million Ray-Ban smart glasses since their debut in October and plans to sell about 5 million units by the end of 2025.
