Hollywood actress and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman has revealed that she plans to pursue a new career as a death doula. She made the announcement during a speech at the University of San Francisco, noting that she has already begun her training.
Death doulas accompany people in the terminal stage of illness and help them and their loved ones cope with fear, anxiety, and emotional distress. Unlike medical staff, they focus primarily on psychological and spiritual support.
According to Kidman, this decision was prompted by a personal tragedy – the death of her mother in 2024. The actress admitted that in the last days of her mother’s life, she felt lonely, and her family, despite their desire to help, could not be there all the time. This experience made her think about the importance of support at the end of life. She emphasized that she sees the new direction not as a temporary hobby, but as part of personal development and a way to help people in the most difficult moments.
Kidman is not the only representative of the film industry who is interested in this area. Previously, director Chloe Zhao spoke about a similar experience, explaining it as a desire to overcome the fear of death and adopt a healthier attitude towards it.
