OpenAI to launch its own AI-powered browser

OpenAI to launch the latest AI model, Orion

OpenAI is preparing to release a new AI-powered web browser that will challenge Alphabet’s market-dominating Google Chrome, Reuters reports, citing three people familiar with the matter.

“The launch of the new browser is planned for the coming weeks. It involves the use of artificial intelligence to fundamentally change the way consumers view web pages,” the report says.

It is specified that OpenAI will thus gain direct access to the “cornerstone” of Google’s success — user data. This will help OpenAI put pressure on a key component of its competitor’s advertising flow.

Two sources reported that the OpenAI browser is designed to keep some user interactions within the native chat interface, similar to ChatGPT, rather than switching to websites. One source said the browser is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to integrate its services into consumers’ personal and professional lives.
