Famous Spanish director Pedro Almodovar won the Golden Lion, the main award at the 81st Venice Film Festival, for his film The Room Next Door.
The commission, headed by French actress Isabelle Huppert, chose the Spanish director’s film from among 21 films.
This film tells the story of the complicated relationship between a mother, a former war correspondent, and her daughter, who live near each other in New York. It stars actresses Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton in the lead roles.
The Grand Jury Prize (Silver Lion) was awarded to The Mountain Bride by Maura Delpero. The Silver Lion for Best Director went to Brady Corbet (The Brutalist).
Nicole Kidman (Bad Girl) was recognized as the best actress, and Vincent Lindon (The Quiet Man) was named best actor.
