Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. have announced a new film in the Lord of the Rings franchise, which will be released after The Hunt for Gollum.
This is stated in a conversation between Jackson and The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, which was published on Warner Bros.’ social media.
Colbert, a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, will write the script for the film, tentatively titled The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, along with his son, screenwriter Peter McGee. The film will adapt six chapters (from the third to the eighth) of The Fellowship of the Ring that were not included in Jackson’s 2001 film adaptation.
According to Kobert, it will be “a separate story that fits into the larger story,” and it will remain “completely faithful to the books, as well as the films that have already been made.”
