American actor Robert De Niro has received Rome’s highest civilian award, the Capitoline She-Wolf, from the city’s mayor, Roberto Gualtieri.
The Hollywood actor’s father was an artist of Italian and Irish descent, and De Niro’s paternal grandfather was from the Molise region in southern Italy.
The award itself was presented “for the cultural and artistic value of a career that has shaped the history of world cinema.”
