Engineer Hideki Sato, one of the key creators of Sega consoles, died on February 13 at the age of 77. The cause of death was not specified.
Sato joined Sega in 1971 and worked for the company for more than 50 years. He played an important role in shaping its hardware legacy – from early systems to iconic home consoles, Sato was involved in the creation of all popular game consoles, including the Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast.
From 2001 to 2003, Hideki Sato served as president of Sega. In 2008, he founded his own company, Advance Create, Inc.
In recent years, the engineer has been actively giving interviews and, in 2019, released a book that shared his perspective on the company’s history. His contribution to the development of Sega hardware – from the first consoles to the Dreamcast – became a significant part of the history of the global gaming industry.
