Sixteen-year-old Owen Cooper became the youngest recipient of a BAFTA Award in the “Best Supporting Actor” category for his portrayal of a boy accused of murdering a classmate. During his acceptance speech, he quoted John Lennon, emphasizing the importance of imagination, determination, and dreaming in achieving success.
Stephen Graham received the award for Best Actor for his portrayal of the protagonist’s father, marking his first win after seven nominations.
Christine Tremarco was recognized as Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Cooper’s mother. In the “Best Actress” category, Narges Rashidi won for her role as Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe in the drama “Prisoner 951,” which was based on true events; she dedicated her award to the woman who spent six years imprisoned in Tehran.
The ITV series’ Code of Silence’ was named Best Drama for its story about a deaf woman helping the police using her lip-reading skills. In the “Best Reality Show” category, the project ‘Celebrity Traitors’ won after attracting over 15 million viewers last year. Steve Coogan received the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in ‘How Are We? It’s Alan (Partridge),’ while Katherine Parkinson won for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for the sitcom ‘Let’s Go.’ The series’ Amandaland’ was named Best Comedy Project. The documentary ‘Gaza: Doctors Under Fire’ received the award for Current Affairs Journalism. The BAFTA Fellowship awards were presented to Mary Berry and financial expert Martin Lewis.
