Steven Spielberg has spoken out against using artificial intelligence to replace creative work in the film industry. The director said this on the “IMO” podcast, hosted by Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson.
Spielberg noted that he believes AI is useful in some areas, including medicine, but does not support its use as a replacement for screenwriters, directors or other creative professions in Hollywood. According to Spielberg, he does not believe that algorithms can replace human emotion and creativity. The director also emphasized that he does not want computers to make creative decisions during film production. At the same time, he admitted that AI can be useful as an auxiliary tool in film production.
The director was not the first Hollywood representative to publicly speak out about the use of artificial intelligence in the film industry. Earlier, Leonardo DiCaprio also stated in an interview with Time that AI cannot truly create art because it lacks humanity.
