The car used by seven-time Formula 1 winner Michael Schumacher to win the 2001 Monaco and Hungarian Grand Prix was sold for more than $18 million. This is the most expensive Schumacher car ever sold at auction.
The New York Times writes about it.
RM Sotheby’s auction house auctioned the Ferrari F2001 on May 24 in Monaco. Two people actively bidded for the lot were present in the room, and the other participated in the auction by phone. The starting price for the car was just over $9 million.
Finally, the winner was the bidder who placed bids from the audience. His name is traditionally not disclosed.
This 2001 Ferrari F2001 that went under the hammer became the most expensive Schumacher car sold at auction. Only three Mercedes racing cars had previously sold for more than this lot.
The historical record for the price of racing cars sold at auction was set earlier in 2025. Back then, a Mercedes W196 piloted by racers Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss in the mid-1950s was sold for over $52.5 million.
