Rupert Grint, the British actor known for his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter series, has demonstrated his ability to get into trouble with the tax authorities.
It all started in 2019 when the UK tax authorities reviewed one of the actor’s tax returns. In 2011-2012, Grint received $5.7 million from his business company, where he was also a shareholder. This payment was recorded as residual income and bonuses from the success of Harry Potter.
In court, the actor argued that he could pay tax and capital gains at 10% rather than the maximum tax rate of 52%. However, the judge said Grint’s arguments were not convincing enough. So now, the movie star is obliged to pay $2.3 million in taxes.
