Hollywood actor John Lithgow said he is “very excited” to play the Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore role in the upcoming Harry Potter series.
This was reported by the BBC.
The creators of the new project are assembling the cast. It has not yet been officially announced, but a day earlier, Lithgow confirmed to the media that he would be the high wizard of Charversood. According to the 79-year-old actor, this offer was a complete surprise.
“It was not an easy decision because I’m afraid it will determine the last chapter of my life. I am very excited. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party [for the series], but I said yes [to the offer],” commented John Lithgow.
The series is planned to be an exact adaptation of the cult books by J.K. Rowling. HBO Max representatives said the project will last for ten years. Viewers will see new actors on the screens; an open casting was held to find some of them. Filming is to start this summer.
Lithgow received two Oscar nominations in the 1980s and won three Emmys for his role as Dick Solomon in the sitcom Third Planet from the Sun. The actor received another Emmy and a BAFTA nomination for his role as Winston Churchill in the Netflix series The Crown and has also played in the drama Dexter and the series Perry Mason.
The Hollywood star played one of the main roles in the 2024 film The Conclave, which is in the running for several Oscars this year.
