In the Spanish municipality of Ulot, 117-year-old Maria Branias Morera, who was considered the oldest person in the world, died.

The family said that Branias Morera died exactly as she wanted – in her sleep, calmly and without pain.
In recent months, the woman had been feeling increasingly weak. A few days before her death, she told her family that she felt that “her long journey would soon be over.” Her family associates her with cheerfulness and a desire to enjoy life all the time.
Maria was born on March 4, 1907 in the American city of San Francisco. It was less than four years after the Wright brothers made the first ever flight and two years before the construction of the Titanic began.
In May 2020, Maria fell ill with the coronavirus, but later recovered. She had three children, 11 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Her family said that the woman lived a long life thanks to her “leisurely pace”-she did not suffer from any serious illnesses, had a clear mind, and ate well.
Spain is the fifth country in the world with the highest life expectancy (83 years), behind only Japan, Switzerland, Korea, and Singapore. Almost 20,000 people over the age of 100 live there now, including more than 700 who are over 105.
