Against the backdrop of court decisions to terminate TikTok’s operation in America on January 19, the CEO of this social network, Shou Ji Chu, plans to attend the inauguration of Donald Trump, who promised to “save” this Chinese platform the next day.
This was reported by The Washington Post, citing three sources.
“The popular video platform is approaching a possible shutdown in the United States on Sunday if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, does not sell the app and if there is no intervention from either the Supreme Court or the Biden administration,” the report said.
Therefore, Shou Ji Chu’s invitation to the inauguration of the US president-elect “comes at a key time for the company’s operations in the United States,” the publication emphasizes.
Although Trump had previously advocated banning TikTok, later, after winning the election and meeting with the platform’s CEO, he said he planned to save the Chinese app from the bipartisan law.
It is not yet clear how Trump, as president, will be able to stop the law. However, according to media reports, he is considering signing a decree to suspend the law for 60 or 90 days. This would theoretically allow him to temporarily postpone the ban on TikTok and wait for the Supreme Court to decide on the appeal against the law.
