Tom Cruise receives honorary Oscar for outstanding achievement in movie industry

American actor and producer Tom Cruise has been awarded an honorary Oscar for his significant contribution to the development of cinema, Variety reports.

The statuette was presented to him by the outstanding director Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu during the Governors Awards ceremony. Receiving his first Academy Award, Cruise gave an emotional speech about how cinema has influenced his life.

The actor has been nominated for an Oscar four times: for his roles in Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia, and for producing Top Gun: Maverick.

This year, along with Cruise, choreographer Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas also received honorary Academy Awards. The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award was awarded to Dolly Parton, who was unable to attend the ceremony due to health problems.
