World food prices resume growth

World food prices fell in January

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said in a statement that in the last month of winter, the FAO Food Price Index (CPI) averaged 127.1 points (up 2.0 points or 1.6% from January) due to increases in sugar, dairy, and oil prices, while meat prices remained virtually unchanged.

The overall CPI was 9.7 points (8.2%) higher than in February 2024 but 33.1 points (20.7%) lower than the record high in March 2022, following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
