A24 Released the Trailer for a Biopic about Anthony Bourdain

The studio A24 has unveiled the first trailer for the biographical film “Tony,” dedicated to the early years of chef, writer, and traveler Anthony Bourdain. The lead role is played by Dominic Sessa, known for his work in the movie “The Holdovers.” The film is set in 1976 and focuses on Bourdain’s life in Provincetown, Massachusetts, before his enrollment in culinary school in 1978.

Anthony Bourdain gained widespread popularity in 2000 with the publication of his memoir “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly,” in which he detailed his experience as a chef at Brasserie Les Halles (New York) and the characteristics of the restaurant industry. Subsequently, Bourdain achieved prominence as a host of culinary and travel shows on CNN, receiving six Emmy Awards for the programs “No Reservations” and “Parts Unknown.” He passed away in Strasbourg in 2018 at the age of 61.

The film also stars Antonio Banderas, who plays a Brazilian restaurateur and mentor to young Bourdain. The project is directed by Matt Johnson. The movie is slated to premiere in cinemas this August. This is one of Dominic Sessa’s first major roles following the success of “The Holdovers” earlier in 2023.
