King Charles III of Great Britain awarded actor Gary Oldman a knighthood. The star of “Leon” and “Harry Potter” received the prestigious title on June 13.

The actor was awarded the title for his contribution to dramatic art. In an interview with Deadline, Oldman said he was shocked to receive the title.

“The knighthood is really amazing. I’m impressed. In many of my roles, I really served the crown,” the actor said.

The UK government website notes that Oldman’s contribution to promoting British cinema cannot be overestimated. Over his long career, the actor has received numerous awards, including an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in the film Darkest Hour.
