The American company OpenAI, which developed the AI-based chatbot ChatGPT, has received a $200 million contract from the US Department of Defense to supply AI tools.
This was reported by the Pentagon press service.
OpenAI aims to develop advanced artificial intelligence capabilities that will help “address critical national security challenges” for military needs and internal management systems.
The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2026. The US Department of Defense’s Digital and AI Technology Office signed the contract.
OpenAI reported last week that its annual revenue (on an annualized basis) had reached $10 billion as of June. This indicates that the company is on track to meet its financial goals amid rapidly growing interest in artificial intelligence.
In March, OpenAI announced that it plans to raise up to $40 billion in a new round of investment led by Japanese company SoftBank, with its total valuation reaching $300 billion. At the end of March, OpenAI’s weekly audience was 500 million active users.
In April, the US White House released new recommendations for government agencies to ensure that both the state and citizens benefit from a competitive artificial intelligence market in the US.
