Isomorphic Labs, a drug development startup owned by Google’s parent company, Alphabet, will start testing drugs developed using artificial intelligence by the end of the year.
This was announced by Demis Hassabis, founder of Isomorphic Labs.
“We are studying cancer, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegeneration, all major disease areas. I think we will have our first drug by the end of this year,” Hassabis said.
Drug development usually takes 5-10 years. However, thanks to artificial intelligence, this process can be accelerated by 10 times, revolutionizing healthcare.
In 2021, Isomorphi Labs was spun from Google’s DeepMind research division. The startup’s potential has attracted the attention of large pharmaceutical companies seeking to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of the expensive drug development process. Hassabis’ team is working on six drug development programs with Eli Lilly and Novartis.
Hassabis calls for more caution and broader communication between leading AI developers. He warns that this technology can threaten human civilization if it gets out of control or is used maliciously.
