Apple is set to introduce an innovative feature for iPhone users that automatically splits expenses after shared events using a photograph of the receipt. This functionality, anticipated for integration into iOS 27, aims to accurately calculate each participant’s share.
According to sources familiar with the company’s strategic plans, the tool operates by analyzing a photo of a receipt, automatically distributing individual line items among participants, and generating payment requests. The system accounts for not only the cost of goods or services but also taxes and tips, ensuring precise calculations of each user’s amount owed.
The expected announcement of this feature aligns with the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). It has been stated that this new functionality will be incorporated into the Wallet application and Messages service, with payment confirmations possible via both iPhone and Apple Watch.
This innovation builds upon the Apple Cash platform, which facilitates monetary transfers between Apple ecosystem users. In the past, the company streamlined the transfer process, allowing transactions with a single tap on a device.
Additionally, Apple is enhancing its Wallet application, allowing users to create digital passes for events, gym memberships, and other services. The Wallet app already supports storing bank cards, digital keys, and tools for Apple Pay and Apple’s savings accounts.
