Apple is preparing a major Siri reboot for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The company will unveil the update on June 8 at WWDC as part of iOS 27 and other operating system updates. The main change is that Siri should become more like a modern AI assistant rather than a traditional voice interface. Apple is allegedly reworking the animations in Dynamic Island, adding a new Search or Ask mode for text queries, and preparing a separate Siri app styled like a chatbot. It will have a conversation history, a text field, voice mode, and the ability to add photos or documents for analysis.
The updated Siri will be able to work with the user’s personal data and the contents of the screen. From this interface, you can launch applications, write messages, search notes, add events to the calendar, and receive answers in the form of cards. Apple is also testing switching between external AI services. Among them are ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude.
Separately, the company is allegedly going to embed Siri deeper into Camera and add new AI features to Photos and Shortcuts. These include generative photo expansion, cropping, natural language automation, AI wallpapers, and system grammar checking. Apple may not release some of these features right away, but spread them out over several releases. The launch itself for users is expected in September.
The company announced some of the features back in 2024, but the launch was delayed. As a result, Apple lost several rounds of attention to OpenAI, Google, and Samsung, and Siri remained more of a symbol of the old generation of voice assistants.
As a reminder, Apple is in preliminary talks with Intel and Samsung about manufacturing processors for its devices at US factories. Apple is likely looking for alternative partners to produce the most modern chips. The company is currently collaborating with Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC, which produces 3-nanometer chips for Apple.
