Apple launches gadget leasing

Apple is preparing a large-scale update to its sales system.

The Apple Upgrade program will start on July 28, which will allow users to lease iPhones, Macs, iPads, and Apple Watches with the option of further redemption or regular exchange for new models.

  • Lease terms: 24 months for iPhones and Apple Watch; 36 months for Macs and iPads.
  • Only a “soft” credit history check will be enough to draw up a contract.
  • The user can pay off the remaining value early, return the device (like in car leasing), exchange it for a new generation, or keep it after all payments are completed.

However, additional fees may be charged for early return or some operations. In fact, Apple is transferring the purchase of expensive equipment to a convenient subscription model.
