Apple Predicts Rising Laptop Prices Due to Chip Shortages

Apple introduced the company's cheapest laptop, MacBook Neo, for $599

In light of the growing demand for memory chips, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, and limited production capacities, Apple is warning of inevitable price hikes for laptops. The cost of RAM has more than doubled since October 2025. Complications in the global helium supply caused by the conflict in Iran are further affecting semiconductor manufacturing.

Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that supply is shrinking amid high demand, with manufacturers passing increased costs on to consumers. Specific timing and the range of higher-priced products remain unclear, particularly regarding the future iPhone 18. Recently, the company raised the starting price of the Mac Mini by approximately $200; however, Apple’s sales in the first quarter of 2026 increased by 17%, buoyed by sustained demand, particularly in China. Similar trends are evident with TSMC and Samsung, which are considering price increases due to rising production expenses.

Tim Cook will step down as CEO in September after 15 years of leadership, with John Ternus set to succeed him.
