Apple has topped the $10 billion mark in annual sales in India for the first time, signaling growing demand for its devices in one of the world’s largest markets.

In the 12 months to March 2026, the company’s revenue in India grew at a double-digit rate, up from about $9 billion a year earlier, a person familiar with the company’s data said.

The bulk of sales were driven by iPhones. However, demand for iPads and MacBooks also increased.

India is still just a part of Apple’s global business. Still, it is gradually becoming one of the company’s key markets outside the United States and China. India’s importance could grow as US-China relations deteriorate. China remains Apple’s largest overseas market, but the company faces competition there from local smartphone makers, including Huawei.

Apple’s sales growth in India is being partially offset by the fall in the Indian rupee. The country’s currency has lost about 10% of its value against the dollar since the beginning of last year, according to Bloomberg.

The company is also actively expanding its physical presence in India. In February, Apple opened a new store in Mumbai, bringing the number of official stores in the country to six.

Apple was previously unable to open branded stores in India for a long time due to local manufacturing requirements. After easing regulations, the company launched an online store in the country in 2020. It opened its first two offline stores in Mumbai and New Delhi in 2023.

At the same time, high taxes make Apple products more expensive for Indian consumers. For example, the base iPhone 17 model in India costs 82,900 rupees ($870), while in the United States it costs $799.

To increase sales, the company is working with banks, offering discounts for students and a trade-in program for old devices.

India has also become an important part of Apple’s manufacturing strategy. The country has five factories that produce iPhones. Currently, about one in four iPhones is made in India, which has become the main source of smartphone supplies for the US market.
