Australian actress and UN Goodwill Ambassador Cate Blanchett is launching a fund to support refugee filmmakers. The Oscar winner, the UN Agency, and the Hubert Bals Foundation (HBF) presented a program to support short films called the Displacement Film Fund, reports The Guardian.
The program provides five filmmakers with grants of 100,000 euros each to create short films about the lives of people who have experienced forced migration.
The winners will be selected by a selection committee headed by Blanchett. The jury will also include actress Cynthia Erivo, Polish screenwriter Agnieszka Holland, director of the Rotterdam Film Festival Vanya Kaludziercic, Danish director Jonas Poer Rasmussen, Syrian journalist Waad al-Qattab and Afghan activist Aisha Khurram.
The winners will be announced at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
