Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first football player in the world to surpass $1 billion, Bloomberg reports, citing its Billionaires Index.
Over the course of more than two decades in professional sports, Ronaldo has played for leading European clubs — including Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus — and has also signed contracts with Armani, Nike, and other global giants.
However, it is his new contract with Saudi club Al-Nasr, estimated at $400 million, that has made him the wealthiest athlete of our time.
According to the agency, the athlete’s fortune has now reached $1.4 billion.
