Restrictions on carrying liquids in hand luggage may soon be lifted for European air passengers. The European Commission plans to deploy equipment capable of scanning the contents of large containers at airports across the continent. This was reported by Euronews.
Current rules prohibit carrying bottles larger than 100 ml in hand luggage, with exceptions for medicines and baby food.
Devices capable of detecting explosives in large bottles have already been installed at several European airports. Their work has already received a positive assessment from European Commission experts, and a decision from the European Civil Aviation Conference is now expected.
After that, the lifting of restrictions will be a matter of days.
However, several issues still need to be resolved — not all European terminals can afford to install more expensive equipment at this time.
