In the second quarter of 2025, India became the leading manufacturer of smartphones exported to the US for the first time, overtaking China, according to data from Canalys. Bloomberg drew attention to this.
Such results were made possible by the disruption of the traditional supply chain for smartphones in the US from China and the accelerated transfer of Apple’s production capacity to India, explains Canalys chief analyst Sanyam Chaurasia.
However, the expert notes that Apple still depends on established manufacturing links in China, even though the company has launched production and assembly of the iPhone 16 Pro model in India.
Samsung and Motorola have also increased exports from India. Still, in their case, this is not as noticeable as in Apple’s example, analysts say.
According to analysts, even if phones are not subject to customs duties, tariff policy will still affect consumer spending, which in turn is likely to keep demand for smartphones at a moderate level.
