Facebook has announced an update to its platform to attract more young people and take users beyond the social bubble of friends and family.
This is reported by Meta.
The social network wants to attract more young users. Hence, they don’t spend only some of their time on TikTok, Instagram, and other social networks. They will focus on information about the local community, videos, and Facebook groups. Meta AI, Facebook Dating, and Messenger will also be updated.
Among the updates are new tabs that should provide more content for users, including recommendations based on a person’s location. The new Local tab will collect content about what is happening or being sold near the user’s location.
Facebook will also start testing the Explore tab, similar to the Instagram feature of the same name. It is a personalized page with recommended photos, videos, and content unique to each person. The company says the Explore tab will be based on the user’s interests and display content from “real people and expert communities,” such as travel tips.
In addition, Facebook will add a full-screen video channel that resembles a TikTok For You page, combining short, long, and live streams in one place.
Messenger will also have a major update in Messenger Communities, a feature resembling Slack or Discord. It will be possible to create communities with multiple chats on different topics. For example, one large university group has different chats for announcements and discussions.
Facebook Events will also be updated. This tab will offer users a digest of weekly events or a weekend digest of upcoming events based on their interests.
