Four non-professional astronauts will fly 700 kilometers from Earth during the first commercial spacewalk, the longest distance since the Apollo mission in 1972.
This is stated on the Polaris Dawn space mission website, which is managed by American billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. It is sponsored by American businessman, pilot, and astronaut Jared Isaacson. He plans three such flights as part of the project.
SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon and former US Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Scott “Kidd” Poteet will join Isaacson on the flight. Only Isaacson and Gillis will enter space, but the mission team will wear spacesuits.
