French prosecutors officially confirm Durov's detention

The French prosecutor’s office has officially confirmed the detention of Telegram founder Pavel Durov, according to a press release from the law enforcement agency. He is suspected of 12 crimes, namely:

  • complicity in the web development of an online platform to facilitate illegal activities in an organized group;
  • refusal to provide information or documents required in judicial investigations at the request of the competent authorities;
  • complicity in the storage of pornographic images of minors;
  • complicity in the distribution of pornographic images of minors in an organized group;
  • complicity in the acquisition, transportation, storage, offer or sale of drugs;
  • complicity in the offer, sale or provision without a legitimate reason of equipment, tools, programs or data designed or adapted to gain access to or damage an automated data processing system;
  • complicity in organized fraud;
  • participation in a criminal association for the purpose of committing a crime or offense punishable by five or more years of imprisonment;
  • money laundering of the proceeds of crime;
  • providing cryptographic services to ensure confidentiality;
  • providing a cryptographic tool that provides authentication or integrity monitoring without prior declaration;
