Google, owned by Alphabet Inc., plans to invest $40 billion in three new data centers in Texas as part of a program to build computing power for artificial intelligence, Bloomberg reported. The state has also received multibillion-dollar investments from the company’s competitors, such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
The investments will be made through 2027, Google said. One data center will be located in Armstrong County and two in Haskell County. One of the Haskell facilities will be located next to a new solar farm and battery storage facility designed to reduce strain on the power grid.
Texas has become a hotbed for data centers as companies seek relatively cheap energy and large tracts of land, and the state aims to host the infrastructure powering the AI boom.
